Something i will never ever take for granted again is a full night sleep with a lie in until 10am!! Cause when that newborn comes along sleep seems to be a thing of the past for most! We have been extremely lucky in the sense that Grayson from a really young age has slept all night! Like 7pm till 7am! When i tell people this they are immediately shocked and ask how! So here is what we done to get him sleeping all night (he does sometimes stir looking for his dummy but that’s all)! Now please note this worked for us and may not work for you!!
(and after the last 24 hours i swear i will never take sleep for granted ever again, if you follow us on Instagram you will know what i mean by this)
Routine
From about 4 weeks old we got Grayson in to a routine! For the first few months it is super hard to try and get in to a routine but stick to it! We have the same bed time routine and have done since he was 4 weeks. At around 6am he gets some naked time on his changing mat, so he kicks his wee legs lets the air get to his wee bum and he sits and shouts stories at you! Then once he starts getting fed up, its upstairs and in for a nice warm bath, again he kikcs about in the water burning off some energy. Then its out the bath in to his room for a massage and in to some clean jammies. Then bottle a quick cuddle and right in to bed.
Settling Down
Grayson has a MyHummy machine and also a star projector light so he can watch the stars on his ceiling. Grayson loves his MyHummy (Max) he settles so well with the white noise and if he stirs during the night it comes back on itself (or we can control it from the app) so he doesn’t wake up. Grayson loves having both of these on when settling off to sleep. We don’t fuss alot over bed time and think this is crucial. He gets his bottle a 2 minute hug and a kiss good night put in to bed and we walk away. He is getting on really well at self settling himself. Of course we never leave him screaming holy blue murder! We do go and settle him if we need to!
Temperature
Being in Scotland the temperature is always a nightmare to get right! But We always have G’s room between 18 and 20 degrees. Its always super important to make sure it isn’t too hot or too cold in their rooms, not only for their own safety but to ensure they dont get too hot or cold during the night! Cause if they were this could cause them to wake during the night! We have the Gro Egg which helps us monitor his room temperature and is worth getting we also use the CoolSoft Sleep Baby mat which helps keep him at a nice regulated temperature (check their link below)! It really helped keep our minds at rest that he was sleeping in a comfortable temperature and knew the appropriate sleepwear to put on him too!

Waking up!
Of course Grayson still has his moments where he will still wake up during the night! Thats just something that babies do! But Grayson is happy to have Max put back on (his MyHummy) and have his dummy put back in and will drift back off. Other times he needs his taggie comforter to snuggle in to. But 9 times out of 10 he will drift back off and wake back up at about 7am or later. There has been the odd occasion where he wants to start his day at 6am and not even cuddles in mummy & daddys bed will send him back off for an hour! But each child is different so you might find they will happily go back to sleep! (or not?!)
Dont be so hard on yourself!
Whilst we have always tried to stick to the bedtime routine…sometimes you just need to cuddle them till they fall off to sleep and that’s OK! Also sometimes your routine might be messed up by danger naps, sickness bugs, teething, growth spurts, the god dam cold! The only thing i can say is although it seems like its been dragging on for a lifetime…they arent small for long and soon everyone will be having nice peaceful night sleeps! (i hope anyway)! so go with it and dont be too hard on yourself when one night the routine doesn’t work! try again the next night! You got this mumma!!
xx
You are so lucky! My 1.5 year old still rarely sleeps through the night! He is SUCH an active little boy and I think he just is scared to miss something!
Grayson can be the same! I’m sure he has FOMO but the boy loves his sleep haha
